| ADSL (Asymetric
Digital Subscriber Link) is an exciting new technology for
fast, affordable Internet access. DSL uses your existing
copper phone line and splits the line into two channels.
One channel is used for telephone calls. The other channel
is used for 24-hour-per-day high-speed Internet access.
You can receive telephone calls while connected to the Internet.
The main limitation of this DSL technology is there can
only be three miles of copper phone wire between the telephone
company's switching station and the customer's location.
DSL allows extremely high-speed connections
previously only possible using direct lines to an ISP (such
as frame relay or similar technologies).
